The power only turns are track sections bent on a horizontal plane according to radii of 600 mm. and a set of angles ranging from 15° through 180°. The most frequently used type of turn is the power and free roller turn where the conveyor chain is contrasted sideways by a set of rollers with a considerably reduced diameter compared with that of the turns. The turn consists of: - A section of curved track with two sections of straight track at each end for connection with the rest of the power and free line
- A set of rollers inserted between the two curved sections to form a roller train which is connected in its turn to the structure of the track using bolted brackets (5).
To facilitate maintenance each part can be easily dismantled unscrewing one or more bolts without having to remove the group to which it belongs, i.e. a roller can be replaced without dismantling the entire set of rollers, and the roller train can be dismantled without removing the entire turn. Required maintenance is obviously reduced to a minimum as the only parts subject to wear are the rollers themselves and these have a heat-treated ball-bearing type steel covering and rotate on ball-bearings with permanently lubricated labyrinth type protection. For special installations, for example, where turns pass through high temperature ovens, a special type of turn is available with specific characteristics most suited for this type of operation (ball-bearings with increased play - turns with rollers mounted in self-lubricating graphite bushes). |
