They are mounted on both types of track when the lines pass near the building expansion joints or where the track is subject to high temperatures (furnaces, drying cabins, etc.) where they may be a dilation of the runway. The joint consists of two sliding parts, one parallel to the other so as to form a continuous running track for the chain trolley or power and free trolleys.
